Mackey family racing was at the track for the third race of the first season for the Top Gun Promod Assoc. The Pro Mods were brought in as part of the show at the first annual All Star Chevy Weekend held at Bandmere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. There were eight spots available, and ten cars there to fill them. Two teams were not going to make the show. The air temps were in the 90’s, track temps were over 120. For both days the corrected altitude was above 9000 feet, all weekend long teams were constantly adjusting and tuning for that last bit of performance.
Bryon Mackey qualified fourth with an early shut off
7.21. In round one Bryon managed a 7.11 to defeat Lee Stark who ran a 7.25. Round two put Bryon up against the number one qualifier BJ Verkler. Mackey improved to a 6.93 that was enough to get past Verkler, and place Bryon in the Finals. During the second round Mackey suffered engine damage from a plugged port nozzle.
The final round placed the ‘41 Willy’s of Bryon Mackey against the ‘05 Viper of Mark Lovell. Mackey was unable to repair the engine damage in time. Mark Lovell ran the final as a single and his ET was the same as the first two rounds, 6.75.
